Greetings from Denton, Texas! Celebrate the American small town experience through original handwork, photographs, postcards, button pins, and more.
Hi, I'm Darien Orr, the artist and owner of Denton Design Company, and here's the story of how my business began:
In 2008, despairing over the lack of Denton imagery available, I decided to come up with a way to visually communicate the town's unique character and charm I loved. After less-than-successful results from simply photographing local landmarks, I hit upon the idea of buying my 1968 Barbie and Ken a brand new convertible (yes, I'm a big spender) and chronicling their lives Out and About in Denton. Since then I've photographed them doing all the iconic Denton things from date nights at Frosty's to floating down the Lazy River, creating note cards, calendars and magnets with the images.
In 2009 the newly founded Denton Community Market provided a perfect place to sell the Out and About collection and I'm proud to be one of it's original vendors. As the Market grew, so did my inventory, leading me to purchase and refurbish at 1968 travel trailer, Bonnie, to serve as a mobile booth. Currently my wares include necklaces, postcards, totes, a Denton coloring book, dog collars made from repurposed people belts, tea towels, onesies and hand embroidered button pins all sporting art, images, or phrases celebrating Denton and the joy that can be found in everyday life here.
Thanks for visiting my website, and don't forget to dream a little dream.
